Art Asylum x Chris Brett

CHRIS BRETT

Chris Brett Is a Mixed media Artist from Toronto, Chris has become and illustrator and fine artist deriving his roots from the elusive graffiti scene. Like most artists of today with a unique and compelling aesthetic, His art has become an evolution from the graffiti mentality of bright, shocking, in your face color and composition, the sort of aesthetic that has stuck with him in his fine art / illustration work.

Using a multitude of materials such as house paints, acrylics, wallpaper, books, found objects, etc..
His paintings of cartoon like characters & children living in wasteland fairy tales are critical commentaries on the failures of capitalist utopias.
Childhood influences play a role as well, the sense of playfulness, and pure fun, mixed with a certain tainted sensibility most adolescents and young adults develop once we all realize the world isn’t a perfect place. The characters that Chris paints are an extension and exaggeration of his own personality and experiences.
